Dedicated Criminal Defence Representation

Mr. Scholten is an independent criminal defence lawyer who operates his own firm, Scholten Criminal Defence, in association with Muenz Criminal Law. In a cooperative approach designed to support strong legal representation, Mr. Scholten and Mr. Muenz regularly consult with one another. Their shared knowledge and experience within the criminal justice system help provide clients with thoughtful legal advice and effective representation.

Mr. Scholten is a dedicated advocate for his clients and places a strong emphasis on quality over volume in his practice. Both in court and outside the courtroom, he is committed to supporting his clients and working toward the best possible result.

Above all, Mr. Scholten recognizes that being charged with a criminal offence or facing an Immediate Roadside Sanction can be a highly stressful experience. He handles each legal matter with care and attention, while helping ensure that his clients receive strong legal representation.

While attending law school, Mr. Scholten volunteered with Student Legal Assistance, where he helped clients with a wide range of legal issues. He also represented his school internationally in the prestigious Jessup International Law Moot, the largest moot court competition in the world.

As a Dutch-Canadian, Mr. Scholten is aware of the serious additional consequences that immigrants may face when dealing with a criminal conviction. He is also mindful of the history and lived experiences of Indigenous peoples in Canada, as well as the unique backgrounds of Canada’s many diverse communities. Mr. Scholten is committed to maintaining an informed and respectful legal practice that recognizes each client’s individual circumstances.
